How to get rid of acne scars?

I have recently used proactiv to get rid of pimples and it worked okay, but now i am left with the scars. They kinda look like small craters on my cheeks, and i was wondering is it possible to get rid of them. If so how? Are there any good products (like mederma) that i can buy, or is it true that the skin will smooth out with time?
